I honestly can’t believe it took me so long to start the books even though I had got “Cinder” the day it came out because I loved the premise of the book. I didn’t get around to it for 2 years and I regret not starting sooner but I think it may have been for the best so I didn’t have to wait as long for them.
“The Lunar Chronicles” is a fairytale retelling of 4 main stories. “Cinder” is based off of Cinderella, “Scarlet” is based off of Red Riding Hood, “Cress” is based off of Rapunzel, and “Winter” is based off of Snow White. Marissa Meyer was also inspired by “Sailor Moon,” hence the setting of Luna, the moon.
The series is about a cyborg discovering a secret that can be the death of her if the Lunar queen learns that she is alive. Who is Linh Cinder? She is Princess Selene Channary Jannali Blackburn, the rightful heir to the Lunar throne and her Aunt wants her dead.
This is an amazing story of bravery when everyone in both worlds are chasing you because they believe you to be a criminal. Along the way Cinder meets Prince, later Emperor, Kaito of the Eastern Commonwealth, the criminal Captain Carswell Thorne, the farmer Scarlet Benoit, the Lunar operative Ze’ev “Wolf” Kesley, the hacker Crescent Moon “Cress” Darnel, the royal guard Jacin Clay, the crazy princess Winter Hayle-Blackburn. Together, they will accomplish the impossible, overthrow Queen Levana of Luna.
This series was simply amazing with keeping an excellent pace up to the very last page in “Winter.” Marissa Meyer shows her writing strength by weaving an intriguing plot and backstory to it all. I would recommend this book to anyone who reads, and I have recommended the series to all of my friends and they all have loved it!
